Mission Statement
The members of the Gloucester Police Department are committed to excellence in law enforcement, and are dedicated to the people, traditions and diversity of our City. In order to protect life and property, prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime, we will provide service with understanding, response with compassion, performance with integrity and law enforcement with vision.
Reporting a Crime
If this is an emergency, dial 911
You can make a police report either in person or by calling the non-emergency line (978-283-1212) to have an officer respond to you. In the near future, you will be able to make some reports via the internet of crimes that occurred anywhere in the City.
When Should You Call "911"
911 is for emergencies, potential emergencies, or when an emergency is imminent. Ask yourself, "What is the level of urgency?" Is there a danger to life or property? Is the caller or someone else the victim of a crime? Do you have a police emergency? Does the caller or someone else have a medical emergency? Does the caller need the fire department?
If you call 9-1-1 by accident, do not hang up. Stay on the line and tell the dispatcher that everything is all right. If you don't, the dispatcher may think that something is wrong and send a police officer.
